I am making a western groom's cake with a Texas Longhorn belt buckle. How do you suggest I make the belt buckle? I am a beginner cake decorator and would appreciate the help. I am considering using fondant with royal icing decorations. How do I give it a silver shine? Any help is appreciated.

You can use silver luster dust. Mix it with some extract or alcohol and paint it on the buckle. It works really well, it'll look like silver! HTH

I just did this one a few weeks ago... I used silver luster dust in my airbrush (mixed w/ vodka). The gold was painted on (gold luster dust mixed w/ vodka). This cake was buttercream, but you can paint with luster dust, on a fondant cake (also see my film canister cake, in my photo gallery).
