I was just curious, all of you great bakers, decorators...etc...must have your least favorite cake to decorate....I mean some hate to do cartoons some flowers..etc..so what is yours, I'd like to know...I have only done this for about 6 months and mine is swags and traditional...not that I have done many, but the few I have done made me tired and nervous and I end up getting sick because I know they have to look perfect. So what are your least fav kind of cakes to do?

Thanks
Christi

Anything that requires gumpaste flowers. I always put off making them until the last minute because I don't enjoy it much.

When someone wants a shell border. I can't do a decent shell to save my life. icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

I have two: one is gum paste flowers, I can never get them to look exactly how I want them to. A pain in the stem... icon_cry.gif the second is icing anything with a lot of angles. I can't get the frosting in corners to stay smooth, no matter what I try. icon_eek.gif so if anyone there can help with the icing thing, I would be very grateful for that. Oh yeah, one more thing, transporting, I live in the country on a dirt road (right now muddy with lots of bumps) I hold my breath most of the time when I have to deliver anywhere.

Oh I hate deliving also! My road for about a mile is gravel with a lot of dips icon_sad.gif makes me so nervous that I end up having DH to hold the cake all the way there....and I tend to not be very nice when I think the cake is leaning a little lol.

I feel your pain a lot. I delivered a wedding cake way up on top of this mountain in the middle of summer, and across a very bumpy field, good thing I had some good. icon_biggrin.gif

I won't do a box red velvet cake, one was enough. Everthing was stained red. I also won't do one of those cakes that are all stars, it just seems so fake.

The ones who dont' want any borders on the top or bottom. I can deal with the no-border-on-the-top-edge .... kinda. I can smooth the BC pretty well, but getting the edges smooth and nice looking without a border to cover up the imperfections.... yuck! At least let me put a ribbon on the base!

I do a lot of the cross-shape cakes about this time of year. I love the end result, but icing that cake is a major pain. As far as a style of cake...very detailed pictures on sheet cakes. I hate leaning over the cake, trying to keep my hand steady as I outline the design.

I hate filling stuff in with the star tip and I have to do 2 this week. Unless someone knows a better way to frost the 3d duck pan and the fish pan, I'd gladly take the help!

Sheetcakes (i got my fill of them working in a bakery) I will do them for something quick and easy, but they aren't creative enough for me. Also the stars... I get about 1/4 of the way done and my hand hurts like crazy.

I agree the stars are the worst! It's not good for the hand. If I got too many orders for them, I think I'd get carpal tunnel syndrome icon_eek.gif

I also hate it when a customer says, "oh do what you want" and doesn't give me anything to go by, especially for a man. The last time this happened, the lady called me on Friday to order a cake on Saturday. That part of it was fine because I didn't have any other cake orders and she just wanted an 8" round. She wanted chocolate frosting with a red border. So I asked her if the guy had any hobbies and she didn't know of anything. "he's a fun-loving guy" um, ok...that doesn't tell me how to decorate a cake. At least if it were for a woman, I could put flowers on. I ended up putting a rope border around the top and just writing "happy birthday george" and placing a strawberry on top since she had a strawberry filling in it. I figured that if she didn't give me anything to go by and it was such short notice, she should be happy with a nice, neat cake that tastes good.
