Hi everyone,

In advance, I am really sorry if this is a really stupid question!! icon_redface.gif

I have started getting a bit more adventurous with my cake mixes and I noticed that a lot of people pad out a cake mix with pudding mix.

What is this!!! My closest quess is that it's what we call Angel delight or instant whip.

Can anyone help?

Thank You thumbs_up.gif

Hi Seraphim,
I'm interested in the answer to this one as well.
Wonder whether, even if can determine product name, you'd probably need to know the ingredients/quantities to be sure talking about same product and not one that was adapted to different countries/local preferences.
Do you use packet mixes for your cakes and if so, which ones do you use. I bake from scratch but only because never tried packet mixes - I do look at them but never get round to using them.

I asked this question a while ago and Angel Delight seemed to be the nearest thing to 'pudding mix'.

I have a doctored choc cake mix recipe which calls for a 3.9oz packet of pudding mix, but I don't know if this is a standard size. The recipe I tried says to add a packet of pudding mix, an extra egg and a cup of sour cream; I tried it last weekend with a Better Crocker Devils food mix, and the result was good, but I haven't tried the BC mix on its own yet, to compare it!

I have been using the Betty Crocker Devils cake as well. I sometimes bake from scratch but i tried this a few weeks ago and it was really good. I get a bit slap-dash sometimes and experiment - i can never remember what I put in it!! I used milk instead of water in the BC Devils mix and added more oil.

I tell you, I was this close to throwing in a packet of angel delight but I didn't have enough time to make another one if it all went wrong!

I just did a search for jello pudding. Here is a list of ingredients on a packet of chocolate flavour pudding (in case you want to compare it to Angel Delight, or something similar):

Label Information
Ingredients
Sugar, Modified Food Starch, Cocoa Processed with Alkali, Disodium Phosphate (For Thickening), contains Les Than 2% of Natural and Artificial Flavor, Salt, Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate (For Thickening), Mono and Diglycerides (Prevent Foaming), Red 40, Yellow 5, Blue 1, Artificial Color, BHA (Preservative).

Directions
1.Beat pudding mix into 3 cups cold milk in bowl with wire whisk 2 minutes. 2 Pour at once into individual serving dishes. Pudding will be soft-set and ready to eat within 5 minutes. Makes 6 (1/2 cup) servings.

Julie,

You should see the list of flavours available, on the Jello website! It puts our chocolate, strawberry, and Butterscotch to shame! Oh, I wish we could get White chocolate flavour too - I luurve white chocolate!!!

I use regular instant pudding in the 3.9 oz pkg and an extra egg. very very moist!!
for a "premium" chocolate I use the Darn good chocolate reipe from CC and it has extra eggs, sour cream, pudding, chocolate chips and I use milk. also i like to add sour cream ,pudding and an extra egg to my yellow cake very delicious-oh I always use DH

Gosh! I can't imagine not being able to get Jello pudding or gelatin mixes! I guess it's one of those things I grew up with here in the US that I never thought about people not having in other countries.

I wonder if Costco do the pudding mixes? Will have a look next time I'm in there.
