Put 3D Cake On Top Of Layer?
Decorating By thecupcakemom Updated 26 Mar 2007 , 6:22pm by NewbeeBaker
I have a cake to do that I would like to put two standing bunnies on top of a 1/2 sheet cake facing each other kissing. On the side borders of the cake I'm going to put 36 mini individual bunnies like babies. My questions:
1. How do I make sure the standing bunnies on top don't tip over?
2. How do I transport?
3. For the border I was just going to "glue" w/ frosting the mini bunnies to the cake. Do I need to stick something in the bunnies to ensure they don't fall off?
4. Can you freeze cakes after they are frosted? Won't the frosting get messed up with the wrapping?
Any and all help is appreciated. In my head this cake looks cute, but in reality it may end up looking like poop.
Thanks. I know these questions are amateur, but that's what I am...Thanks for having the patience to help me.
Hi
The cake idea sounds really cute. I think it will stand Ok if it is well supported. For the mini cakes you can try them with frosting or simply put a toothpick through the bottom of the bunny so you can place them and move them round and they can be lifted on and off.
For the big bunnies, if the are heavy you could use a thin cake board supported from the bottom board with dowels (or kebab skewers!) almost like a tiered cake or if they quite light put the skewer through the big bunnies and just place on top.
I hope this is clear!! I know what I want to say but it's not coming out quite right.
Good luck.
If you are transporting it, I personally would use a dowel all the way thru, depending on how big the kissing bunnies are(cute idea btw!). Just sharpen one end of the dowel to a point and push thru the top until you hit the "support" board under the bunnies, then take a hammer/mallet and tap it thru the "support" board and INTO the bottom board. Much more support to make sure it doesn't tip and fall onto the cake. And I love the idea the pp gave you on the toothpicks for the little bunnies to keep them upright and safe during transport!
