Seperators Between Cake Tiers With Flowers?

Cakers,
Just wondering what everyone uses in between tiered wedding cakes which have fresh flowers in between the tiers? Do you just use a Styrofoam separator or a flower foam separator in between? I once saw a special foam flower disk encased in a plastic frame that you put in between the cakes. What is strong enough to hold up a 3 or 4 tiered cake?
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Lori V.
I just did a version of this cake and I used the hidden pillars from Wilton, which are 6" tall, and once pushed into the cake, gave me just over 2" of clearance for the florist to tuck in this flowers. Used smooth edge separator plates the same diameter as the cakes they sat on, so it was a smooth finish. and the best part - NO DOWELLING ![]()
I wish I had a photo, but I had to set up and get out of the way, and the florist didn't get to place the flowers right away. I'll get a photo from the bride eventually (I hope!)
Oh I guess I should say - the florist didn't use any foam or anything, he just stuck the flowers in with nothing in the center. If I were doing it, I would use a round disk of floral foam with plastic underneath, insert the flowers all around, slide it down between the hidden pillars prior to stacking the next cake on top. HTH!
