So I finished my daughters 5th birthday cake this weekend the top two tiers were RC so I finished those last weekend and the bottom tier was cake. It was my first attempt at the whimsical tiered cake and it did not go so well. I used a really firm cake mix, I followed the instructions in the tutorial and about 6 hours after assembling the bottom tier crumbled icon_surprised.gif and was a complete loss icon_cry.gif , I had to cut what was left put it on plates and assemble the remaining tiers into a cake for her to blow out the candles on, it worked out but I was so dissapointed that is fell icon_cry.gif , any ideas on the cause or suggestions for the next one.

I am not sure why that happened but the pic of the cake is lovely...

I am sure someone who does the whimsey cakes will pitch in to help with advice.

Sorry to hear about the crumble... icon_sad.gif

Did you use dowels in the cake before you set the RC on top?
