I have never done this before and I want to try it on a birthday cake I'll be making next month. Do you emboss after you let your icing crust and then smooth it? Does it need to crust a little again before you emboss? Just wondering Is it hard to try and line up the sides to match the imprint on the top? Are there any little tricks I should know?
TIA
Nikki
Also does anyone have any pictures of this? I saw a pic here awhile back and I really loved that effect!
Here's a couple of examples for you. I just uploaded them to be able to show you two different designs.
Let your icing crust long enough to smooth it. Then lay your papertowel on the cake and gently smooth over it with your hand. With some designs you'll have to match it (like my diamond pattern), but others don't have to be matched (like my circular pattern). Also, I use two connected papertowels and that seems to help even without showing the perforations.
Here's links to the 2 pics:

The last one is so plain but that's all the customer wanted.

For some reason, when you start a new post you have to click on the statement "watch this topic". It doesn't automatically do it when you start a new one like it does when you make a post in someone elses thread. I have forgotten that so many times. Maybe CC can change it ![]()
