Look How Far I Have Come In 1 Year!

I am posting this to first thank all the members of CC for all the help and inspiration you have given me, and second to hopefully encourage others who are just starting out.
I made my first cakes exactly 1 year ago today for my son's 3rd birthday party. It was actually sort of a fluke that I made it in the first place because he wanted a Curious George the Movie cake and it was still so new that none of the bakeries near me carried them yet. So, I sort of stumbled upon the world of cake decorating and totally fell in love!!!! I know it sounds silly but it really has changed my life this past year. I am a stay at home mom and found myself often feeling like all I accomplished in life was cooking, cleaning, and changing diapers... well oddly enough I have really found a new confidence and sense of accomplishment through baking!
Here are the pictures of last years Curious George cake and this years Lightning Mcqueen cake. I think it is fun to see how much I have learned in 1 year.
So to any of you who are just getting started...congrats, have fun, be encouraged!
Thanks for looking and have a great day!
Breanna
I love it! Awesome cakes! I'm into photos, too- seeing changes happen gives us perspective and a sense of accomplishment.
And I feel the same way about CC! I started out looking for a way to jazz up a German Choc Cake I made for my DH's birthday. He was still asleep that morning, so I surfed around and found this site. It's been a wonderful new outlet for my creativity and project-oriented side of me.
boy we have a lot in common! I have been decorating just over a year and feel the same way that you do about it! It really has changed my life. I finally found something that I am good at and that I enjoy besides my kids and family. Something just for me. I also did a Lightning McQueen cake for yesterday!
You really have accomplished a lot, your cakes are great!
I'm with both of you brea and merissa. I started making birthday cakes just for my girls and now I do cakes because of what it does for me. It's hard having time for yourself as a new mom and when you finally get that time to do something you enjoy it is such bliss! My stress level has gone way down since I started getting more serious about it.
Awesome! My oldest pix are not on my computer from 7 years ago but its fun to look back at what was done. My very first cake for someone was a HUGE double layer 11x15 iced green like grass...and then a painted candy melt house I used a mold for placed on top with writing. The neat thing is, no matter how much you improve, there's always more to learn! I can't wait to go up the next notch from where I am today.
How nice to see how you've grown as a decorator! I'm with Doug...I can't wait to see next year's pics! Your lightening McQueen cake is wonderful!!!
you have done a great job in the past year. I recently compared pictures and its been fun[/i]
WOW!!!! Both of your cakes are lovely but the last one is just perfect. I still don't like fondant and I feel that after a year I still haven't improved. You're an inspiration. ![]()
