I am so new to the cake decorating world that I'm not even sure if I qualify and one yet but my daughter who wants the perfect everything for her wedding has hatched a plan that I will be making her wedding cake! Her dress has what looks like scrollwork on it. Is there a place where I can purchase scroll molds or a template or premade so I can just add them to the cake? With such a lack of experience I am leary to freehand. I have seen plastic ones but I am not interested in putting plastic on her cake. Thanks everyone. P.S. I have attached a small image of the actual scrollwork on her gown.

Wilton has a set called pattern press it has a bunch of different scroll designs. I am going to pick one up this week for myself!

I am not good a freehand scrolls either. I always make a template. Make it on wax or parchment paper. Draw out the design you want. I make several that are small so that I can change up the pattern. The I use a pin and prick the sides of the cake. I can then pipe following the pin pricks. Very easy.

Good luck!

It would be really pretty if you made them out of royal icing and painted them silver with luster dust. The scrolls you linked looks silver to me=) Jen

wow, what a beautiful dress to go by! I would love to have the opportunity to duplicate that scroll work in cakeicon_biggrin.gif You can probably cope that onto wax or parchment paper and then pout holes along the lines that you traced. Then hold up to the cake and put a toothpick through each hole to mark a dot-to-dot line to follow icon_smile.gif

Good luck! I hope to see it posted hereicon_smile.gif

You know, this just came up a few days ago. Here's a link to another thread which might help you as well: http://forum.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=1891211#1891211

I think you can free hand this...just practice first with a pencil and paper until you get the right direction and "look" then make your self a "guide"-you know like a half page of really nice scrolls, and then refer to this AS you pipe. I've never had luck with the pin-prick method, as I ALWAYS seem to mess up my icing icon_sad.gif
I would advise doing a small practice cake so you'll know for sure which method is best for you.
HTH, and best of luck I can't wait to see your finished cake!

Yes, I'm the original poster from that thread and ugh! Scrolls are NOT my favorite! I checked on the Wilton set of presses you can buy and they're really not what I was looking for. There are more like shapes in there (bows and things like that)... maybe 2 usable presses, then a corner one (which would do me no good)... try the eBay link (where I bought mine off of) or maybe make your own if you want. Good luck! We'll have to compare final cakes... I'm still nervous!!!

This lady on Ebay sells scroll mats, pretty inexpensive too. She has several different styles to choose from: http://cgi.ebay.com/KS-1-Scroll-Impression-Mat-Cake-Decorating_W0QQitemZ300085023923QQcategoryZ79631QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
