does anyone know where i can get a roller for doing fondant/gumpaste ribbons that gives it a very light silk/linen texture? not the ones like at sugarcraft that say fabric... with deep lines... this would be a very, very fine texture, you almost don't see it. Thanks CC!

Here is one, if it's not what you are looking for, type in "Textured rolling pin" in a search engine.

another option:

take real silk or linen -- wash/rinse thoroughly

then lay it on the fondant and gently roll over it w/ rolling pin to transfer the pattern of the fabric.

thank you, i've seen that one... it's way too much pattern. this month in ACD (or mailbox news, i mix them up) Bronwen Webber mentions it during her bow tutorial... but doesn't say where to get it.

Maybe you could email Bronwen and ask for an ordering source. That's the best I can do for you, sorry.

I have heard of people using a small piece of tulle or netting - wash well and use that to make a fabric type texture on fondant also...

I am not sure where you can get it either, however, if you would like to send an email to Bronwen (or any other contributor to ACD or MBN), visit our website and there are forms to fill out that will send her an email. You can access the forms at www.americancakedecorating.com either through the Customer Care or the Learn link.

Hope this helps!

thank you so much, that was very thoughtful of you. I actually got her email and have been emailing back and forth with her. SHE IS SO NICE! for those of you that are interested... the roller is from caljava, here is what Bronwen told me:
I got that rolling pin at Caljava....they have a website. It is called the gro grain pin, item number 875-022. Their phone number is 1800.207.2750.

Nicholas Lodge sells a grosgrain roller that may work for you if you haven't already ordered the big one. It is a white plastic tube about 12" long and probably less than one inch in diameter with lines running down the length. It makes a fairly fine-textured grosgrain pattern that he uses on bows, drapes, baby blankets, etc. It is about $5.00.

You're right, he does have that, but he also has exactly the rollers you are looking for. I only know because we got to use them in his fabric-effect flowers mini-class. They worked great and I've been wishing I'd bought them after class.

Anyway, you might want to try the shopping section of his website. icon_biggrin.gif

Hi,

I just checked his site and I don't see them there either. I emailed the company to ask about the silk and taffeta rollers we used in his class and I'll let you know if they reply. They were really cool rollers.

That Caljava site is AMAZING!!! I wanted to buy everything. They have beautiful cake stands. And did you see how they sell ribbon loops? Individual ones on wire. I'd like to try that. Wow.

Ditto on the Caljava site - Wow!! Unfortunately, someone's rude uncle (you know - that Sam guy - no one in my family would be so demanding icon_lol.gif ) wants my money right now, too. I have difficulty with the ISAC website - I always just call the toll free number and order by phone. They will know what you need and can quote prices and/or ship to you.

Just wanted to check in this thread because I said I'd post if I heard back from the Nick Lodge store people. I haven't heard back from my email, but fortunately you seem to have found another very good source anyway!
