I need to stack one cake on top of the other, and the book says to use wooden dowel rods and put them in the base cake and then put the other on top. do i need to put a cake circle under the top cake? or do i just put the cake right on? please help!

If you did not use a cake board on the top cake, I doubt you could get it off in one piece to cut it seperately. Make sure you do use dowels on the bottom cake for support, so that the weight of the top cake does not crush or crack the bottom cake.

I would definitely use a cake board the same size as the cake.
