When I go to smooth my cake I am having a problem with my cake sliding on the turntable. How do you make the cake stay in one place while applying a bit of pressure with your tool (knife, spackle, roller, etc) and turn the table and not have your cake slide from one side to the other?

I have the Ateco cast iron and stainless turntable and it came with a nonslip mat which helps alot. I think you can buy the mats but not sure where....

You can use a piece of nonslip shelf/drawer liner between the cake board and the turntable. That is what I do.

i bought a big roll of this (maybe 15 ft) for $1 at walmart, and just cut it into squares. i use it under cakes while icing, in cake boxes while driving and under the cake boxes, so they cant slide around. its great stuff!

I also put a piece under kitchen appliances that have a tendency to "walk", such as my food processor. I used to have to almost wrestle my heavy-duty food processor to keep it from hopping right off the counter. Once I got the idea to use the nonslip liner, I haven't even had to hold the appliance!
