So, I'm playing around with the ideas for my baby luau shower cake. I am still not sure about how the wave is going to happen, but here are my two ideas. They are similar.
The thing I'm wondering is would you do a chocolate transfer for the palm trees and the hibiscus? I did this for my flamingo cake and it was okay, I need some practice. OR would you stick to just fondant since the rest of the cake is going to have fondant/gumpaste accents?
Also, is it weird to have the flowers and trees on the bottom and have the wave on top? Thanks!

The one with the three simple palm trees would be fondant. The one with the two-color would be chocolate transfer. I would get better detail with that, but I don't know that it matters.

I think that the water on top is great. With the trees at the base, it makes it look like your standing inland looking out at the water. I like the three trees. I also like the idea of fondant for the trees (3-d) you can be more creative with it than with chocolate. Just my idea. Hope you get more help.

Any other opinions?

Both cakes will have trees and flowers around the whole bottom..the question is between fondant and chocolate transfer.

Thanks.

i'd do fondant..

and can get two tone with it (lay two pieces side by side that are thicker than needed then roll to thickness desired. as you roll they will blend together)

w/ fondant can cut the leaves so look more real, can texture the trunk, etc.

(but then I like playing in fondant -- reminds me of play-doh!)

Good points, Doug.

Yeah, I'm a huge fan of fondant (and play-doh and polymer clay) and if I don't like it, I can always mush it up and do it again icon_smile.gif
