Best Medium For Decorations To Stick Vertically Into Cupcake

Hey-- I don't know if my subject title makes sense but... I'm going to be making little cupcakes for a kids clothing party. Something like a tupperware party but with clothes. Anyway, I wanted to pipe little dresses onto wax paper and once dry, stick vertically out of cupcake top.
Ideally I would use royal icing but I don't really care for the taste(at least, not Wilton's). White chocolate bark is my next favorite but every time I add coloring to it, the consistency turns very thick and lumpy. I tried painting it but the color just wipes off (color spray wipes off too.)
If any of you have a favorite way to do this, could you pass it along? By the way, thanks so much to anybody who went to the trouble to read my overly detailed post!! :O)
I think your chocolate might be seizing from the food colouring. If you go to Michael's there is special colouring for chocolate. I also suggest Marshmallow Fondant (recipe on this site) because you can pretty much paint on to it with colouring once its dry.
Candy melts....... but use the color for this or get some of the Americolor's color flo-coat to use your regular colors.
I like the idea of MMF. You can mold it into several shapes of clothes.
