Do any of you do table cakes, and what do you normally charge for these. I need all the information I can get. I just did 25 table cakes and I know I didn't charge enough. Thanks for your help.

I look forward to the answers you will get. I quoted a couple the usual $2.00 a serving, they wanted 25 cakes all 6 inches. BUT they wanted 4 different flavors, 4 different designs, then the 25 cake plates and 25 stands. After I quoted the price - I thought are you crazy - I am glad I did not hear back from them.

Table cakes are individual cakes for each table at a wedding reception that would serve the guests at each table. They usually serve as the centerpiece in place of a floral arrangement.

Depends on the size of course of each cake. I will try to talk a bride out of them or refer her to someone else. More smaller cakes are more work ... more boxes .... more transportation headaches, etc. If they want to pay me an OUTRAGEOUS price, I will "consider" it, but the headaches the all the extra work aren't worth it to me.

What really gets me on this topic is the magz and websites that are convincing these brides that 20 small cakes are cheaper than one big cake.

Are table cakes a replica of the traditional big wedding cake? Do they generally have a big wedding cake too?
are they usually tiered or more like a dessert cake?

sorry so many questions....

Here's a little kit I found on Ebay to help in the making of said table cakes: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=019&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=290076579822&rd=1&rd=1

Indydebi, I agree totally!

.....so according to the "sources" if I go into a nice restaurant with a group of friends/family - it would be cheaper to buy fine wine by the glass instead of the bottle for a dinner party... icon_eek.gificon_mad.gifthumbsdown.gif

Here's a multi-linked thread on mini-, centerpiece and dummy cakes with pricing info:

I made 12 table cakes for a wedding last June. They were 6" square cakes that matched the main wedding cake. I put them on every other table in the reception hall, alternating with floral centerpieces on the opposing tables. Each of the cake tables also had their own servingware. (Remember, the bride and groom pay for everything!!). Once the couple had their formal cake cutting, the guests were invited to dive in. I charged $12 per cake, they were all the same flavor, and I had an experienced friend help with the baking and decorating, since I also had to make the main wedding cake. (I wouldn't recommend doing this alone.) Very cool idea - something different. I received lots and lots of compliments. Guests really had fun, and many took home extra cake!

Umm, this link is for mini cakes not table cakes. I bought some of these molds from her and they are small.

I just did a wedding with 10 8" round 4" high table cakes at $26 each, they had bc pearl dots on them and afterwards I thought... how dumb I should have charged more than that. Oh well next time I will.

awall96-

We just did some table cakes that I delivered today. There were 9 total, 6" bottom layer, 4" top layer. They were covered in fondant and they had a piped cherry blossom pattern and fondant accents. We charged $75 each but after some discussion we will likely charge at least $90-$100 each next time.

We don't get requests for them very often and this is the only product where our prices are not already set in stone but after doing some math it seems like doing 10 cakes for anything less than $1000 just isn't worth it.

More time involved and less money?
The customer so does not understand!

Really? Huh, I would have thought those would be perfect for table cakes. (Can you tell I've never done them before? icon_razz.gificon_rolleyes.gif) Couldn't these be used for mini-wedding cakes (aka table cakes)?

"Couldn't these be used for mini-wedding cakes (aka table cakes)?"
A "mini" cake would serve one person, like a cupcake.... a "table" cake will serve how ever many are seated at that table.....

I do package deals... I've got one package for $500 then another for $1000... The $500 package includes 16, 6" double-layer round cakes with the option of a fondant coat... The $1000 package is 32... With the package the numbers can be adjusted up or down depending on what they're wanting for the decoration. Usually they'll go for simple then put the decorating time in and have the small 3-tier centerpiece photo cake I include with the package deal (basically enough to serve the head table) done up a little nicer. I range from $20 to $36+ per cake depending on what they order.. I also put limits on what they can have for the 3-tier (aka the more control you want of it, the more you're going to be charged for it)..

I just booked a wedding with 20 -22 mini table cakes. The cakes will be 2 layer 6" round or square, buttercream with simple dot or swirl pattern, pound cake with chocolate filling. I charged $28 a cake. I need boards for each, boxes for each, transportation and set up of each, including placing flowers on top. I thought it was reasonable. We'll see after the wedding if I charged enough. I think the biggest headache will be the baking, that's 40 6" rounds or squares.

Amanda... Just bake 12" cakes and cut them into quarters if she wants square... That's easier than doing the pans because at least for me, one WASC is one 12" square cake..

Hi All,
Have a wedding order for June for table cakes - I've already given quote and taste testing. It will be for approx. 16-20 cakes 2 layer 8" cakes plain B/C icing or fondant. B/C quoted at $20 with b/c filling. B/C iced with fondant decor or mousse fillings $25. All fondant iced $30.00. Have not signed contract yet but will be meeting bride in April to go over final details. The cakes will ultimately be plain with simple border delvd. on cake board and boxed plus delivery and set-up. Bride & florist supplying fresh or silk flowers for top of cakes. Hope this helps some.
