I am just sitting here waiting for a guy to pick up his cake and this is the THIRD cake this week that the customer has been late!!!! icon_mad.gif Two of the customers I had to leave there cakes on the table by the door so they could get them because I HAD to leave. Thursday I had to take my daughter to Horseback riding lessons. I told the customer this and she called 10 minutes before I had to leave saying "her hubby is stuck in a meeting icon_mad.gif . Then Friday morning I had to go to my hubby's graduation and the lady never showed so I left a note on the door...now the dude is 10 minutes late already and I need to get to the ranch to watch my daughter ride in her last rodeo of the season....but here I sit!!!!!!! icon_mad.gificon_mad.gificon_mad.gif

Thanks for letting me vent!!!

If they ordered their cake from a 9-5 bakery, they'd pick it up by 5 or they'd lose it. If you're operating as a business, then you operate the same way. You tell them up front "This needs to be picked up no later than xxx. I have to leave so if you're late, no one will be here." They have been told. They have been warned.

I totally agree. If the cake is important to them, they will be there on time. if you have to leave, then leave & they can run to WalMart & grab a $14.98 cake outta the bakery section. Just be sure they pay you up front.

I agree with indydebi, bakeries close at a certain time and any cakes left behind are just that -- left behind! You're a business too. If you act like a business (not that you're not), you'll be treated like a business. Or so the saying goes...icon_rolleyes.gif

Yes, they can be very inconsiderate! I now tell them to collect their cake between 0900am and 0930am only.
I wouldn't leave it outside, I am a meanie and would make them come back a second time to get it from me.
I almost think they think we are sitting down watching Oprah and eating bonbons, so anytime would be okay.
I had one recently who was supposed to pickup her cake at 10am and 10mins earlier to the collection time she sends me an EMAIL to say she is having a bad day with the kids and will be here between 10am and 4pm.
I rang her and said "Sorry, but I have things on, you will need to arrange a time"
They just don't seem to think about it at all.

I had a lady last summer order a cake from me for someone's birthday. We decided I would deliver it on a certain day, at a certain time (a Saturday at noon.) Three days before I call to her confirm -- the phone is busy. For the next three days her stinkin phone is BUSY, BUSY, BUSY! icon_mad.gif Sooo, the day comes, I pack up my cake and head on over (she's only like 10 minutes away, thankfully.) I go at the time we agreed, nobody home. Go home, call her AGAIN, phone's still busy (it's been days of this mind you!) icon_mad.gificon_mad.gif Now I don't know what to do. So all day I'm trying to get ahold of her, to no avail. I drive over there again that night, and she's still not home! tapedshut.gificon_evil.gif I leave two notes on the door explaining how we agreed her cake would be delivered here and the date and time, I've been trying to call, yada yada yada... Finally, at like 11:30 Saturday night she calls, she's been out of town and didn't hang her phone up so I've been getting a busy signal, can I please deliver the cake NEXT THURSDAY? icon_surprised.gificon_eek.gificon_confused.gif (Is she like on drugs or what??) icon_evil.gif I told her we had an agreement and her cake is done now. Well long story short, she gets the cake next Thursday with an extra "aggravation" fee tacked on and she pays me the original amount only!! icon_mad.gificon_evil.giftapedshut.gif And with that I told her I am no longer available to do her cakes. icon_twisted.gif The end. icon_cool.gif

It happened to us today too. The woman said she would be here just after 10am to pick up her cakes. We rearranged our schedules so one of us would be here and she didnt show. We kept rearranging until she finally showed up at NOON!

oh they don'y mind being late at a store front either...

one time it was 10 minutes before closing time...i get a frantic call...she's on her way...will be here in 45 minutes!!!!!!!!

HECK WITH THAT!..i went home.

then one time i made an appointment to meety a customer on a day off...i waited till an hour past the time she said she'd be here...DID I MENTION IT WAS MY DAY OFF?

anyway she forgot and went off an a 2 day holiday to the next state.

i used to meet people on my day off for cake appointments...i quit tho, they have no respect for your time.

some people are such poor managers of thier life its a wonder they can keep thier utilities and stuff turned on!

You are so right. Hubby works for a car dealership and he used to work in the service dept. He was the guy they paid when they picked up their car. He would get lots of calls like this. ".... don't go home, I'll be there in 30 minutes!" at 10 minutes before closing. One day he told the person, "My daughter is waiting for me at her school RIGHT NOW. I cannot stay. we close in 10 minutes." We find it amazing the attitude of people who don't consider that OTHER people have quitting times, kids at daycare and other deadlines that THEY have to meet, TOO!

Hubby tells me he read that cell phones have created a new attitude of "if I CALL you on time, then that's the same as me actually BEING there on time!" This same article told of restaurants who are now refusing to seat parties until everyone shows up, even if the one late straggler has "called" to tell everyone that "....I'll be there in 10 minutes!" It said the restaurants are viewing it as "you are taking up table space and not ordering (until the straggler gets there) and we cannot afford to do that. We have customers who ARE ready to order and we will seat them first."

More and more you find people are not respectful of others time.

I am ALWAYS on time usually 10 to 15 min early. My daughter asked me to help her with something and told me she needed me there at 11:45 she said if it was anyone else she would say 11:15 because she knows they will be late, how sad that that's the norm.

One of my biggest peevs is Doctor's office. I always give myself an extra half hour in case of detours or trains. Most of the time I end up there half hour early just so I can wait another hour because the Dr is running behind. And, why is he running behind because the Idiots before me couldn't be on time.

I am with you I would not take orders from her again. It's just not worth it.

All you guys are right people do not have any respect for you time. icon_mad.gif I guess I am just suck it up because my business is primarily word of mouth - and it has been very good - I suspect that something bad would travel just twice as fast icon_eek.gif by word of mouth!! icon_cry.gif The guy came about 20 minutes late but made up for it when he said the cake I made was worth more than I charged and gave me $15 bucks! icon_biggrin.gif
