If you put a point on the end of your dowel (sharpen like a pencil) and use cake boards, you can push the dowel through. I don't know about seperator plates though.

For stacked layered cakes, I use cake boards and sharpen the end of the dowel in a pencil sharpener and gently tap the dowel all the way through with a small hammer.

Just to confirm, would you cut a hole in each cake board? I can't see a dowl going through the cake board and whatever you use to cover it.

If you sharpen the dowel, and use a small hammer or mallot, it will go right through the cardboard, no problem. It wouldn't work putting a hole in the board prior - on the chances, you "might" get it in the hole!

Yep...you dowel each layer individually as well as one long dowel through the whole thing. Just sharpen and tap through!.

Some people put a 1 in. hold in the center of their boards for "ease".

OK! I will try the 1 inch hole, with my luck I would ruin all the layers in quick tap!

THANKS!
