How long does it take royal icing to dry? I'm trying to make handles for little cupcake sized easter baskets. Every time I try to pick them up from the wax paper they break. Its so frustrating. I piped 24 basket handles yesterday afternoon and I ended up with only 3 that didnt break. I'm wondering if I just need to give it more time to dry.

Drying time depends on a number of things including temperature, humidity level, consistency of the RI, and size of the RI piece (especially thickness).

If I am in a hurry, I put the RI pieces in the oven, with the heat off, but the light on. This speeds up the process, but I would still allow more than just a day for fairly large pieces. Flowers can take a couple of days sometimes.
