I tried Fondant last week and all seemed to be going well until I got to the bottom. After I trimmed off the excess around the bottom, I found that it would not stick to the sides along the bottom of the cake. What did I do wrong and is there a trick that I'm not aware of? I've also notice some of your pics where the fondant actually seems to be tufted under the tiers-without borders. Again, any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi,

I just finished the Wilton course level 3....we were told to spread a thin layer of piping gel around the base of the cake to prevent "shrinking". I have found that it works pretty well....give it a try!! thumbs_up.gif

if i am putting a border on the bottom it keeps the fondant on the cake.. but i will tuck it under the cake even but the piping jel would work great.

I always use and always tell my students to use piping gel to glue the fondant down and in place. Has always worked great for me.
