Not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this but I figured if not it can be moved. If a cake recipe calls for "cake flour" will it still work if I use regular flour?

Hope that helps.

Thanks a ton Onebigdogmama! I guess I will just have to make a special cake/frosting shopping list. I was going to try this one since I am out of sour cream for the other mix I was going to try. Oh well, I do have a cake mix in the cupboard so if worse comes to worse..........I just wanted to try something new. I have yet to make a cake from scratch except my Texas sheet cake and that really doesn't work for decorating! Hmmmm...or maybe it would, I usually bake this in a cookie sheet maybe I will try it in a regular pan. Oh and btw where in northern Idaho are you? Do you have your own cake decorating business or is this just a hobby for you? I have tried to get in touch with our local health dept to get some answers about starting a business in my home but he has not returnd my calls yet. I think he may be out of town this week or something?! Just curious if you know anything. Thanks again for the link icon_smile.gif

I am in the Coeur d'Alene area. And no, I am just a wantabe. LOL. I took all 3 Wilton classes last summer at Michaels and I am now hooked. I try to bake when I can--have to find the time. Cakes, cookies, candy molds so far. I don't know of the health info. Just know that it is alot of paperwork and waiting for people to call you back. There are a couple of places for sale up here in this area but they want too much money and I am a real novice at this. I know the feeling of wanting to bake something and having to go through the cupboards to see if you have everything. I usually have to make a trip to the store and end up making something totally different. OH WELL! Hope that inspector gives you a call soon! Good luck and see you around CC! icon_biggrin.gif

This isn't about cakes but I HAVE to jump in here a minute. I stayed on lake
Coeur d'Alene for one glorious week in a houseboat with my parents and three younger sisters. Summer of 1968. It was the summer before my senior year. I met my husband a week after we came home. Best vacation I was ever on. We tied up at a little place called Harrison every night. There wasn't much there from what I could see but a little store a saloon and the marina but it was heavenly. What a trip!

Okay, back on subject. I think I've read that cake clour is flour sifted several times with cornstach added. I'd think one could mix it up her/himself if in a bind. With the right proportions, of course. Ü
