My very good friend, who knows better, just called and asked if I could squeeze in a cake for her stepdaughter this week...I have two other cakes but this is my friend and I would like to make this for her. She understands if I can't do it, but I can if I can come up with the idea today and make any decorations ahead of time tonight and maybe even bake the cake!

So, with that said, I am thinking tye-dyed and groovy flowers - maybe some funky heels and purse on it as well! This child is 11 but thinks she is grown and doesn't like "fru-fru pinky stuff" but she is into fashion. On the flip side she is very athletic and loves softball. I don't know how to do fashion/tomboy in the same cake!!

Anybody have any clip art or pictures I can get some ideas from?

Thanks, T

Could you make the purse a "softball purse"? Just add an image of a softball onto it and stick with the tye die groovey flowers theme too? I'm clueless!

What about retro (groovy) flowers and peace signs made of fondant?

My daughter is 11 in about two weeks. Like that likes to think of herself as grown up.... but still loves anything to do with groovy chic. How about something funky in Purple with maybe turqouise and yellow groovy chic flowers and a bit of makeup on the top.

I did a cake for her best friend last week in those colours, it was a purse cake and cool and all as they were they thought it was great!

Alternatively you could try doing one of those mobile phone/ipod cakes in the gallery.

LOL!! Not boycotting you fytar, I'm just stumped! I guess I'll leave this one for someone else, my creative juices have slowed to a mere trickle this morning.

Well, there you guys are! I was beginning to wonder if I was the only person not working!! I'll try to find some of those funky "groovy" flowers I keep hearing about. I like the idea of the tie-dye purse and put an image of a softball on it...then again, I don't think my friend wants me to spend that much time on it. Of course, if I had a lot of time to spend on it, I would anyway...but I'm only going to be able to make a sheet cake - nothing carved or covered in fondant.

Oh, and she did mention something about a cellphone and maybe a little purse drawn on it and maybe even lipstick.

What if you just direw on the cellphone and purse, and then did softballs as the bottom border around the cake. I don't know if that goes together, but it would incorporate everything.

The "Neon Flowers" cake in my photos was something that I did for a 13-year-old girl. Those colors are very popular right now. I just filled the flowers in with a star tip in bright pink, orange, blue, and yellow. It didn't take very much time which is good because I found out about it the day before.

What about a big tye-dye shirt with "You Go Girl!" on it
then you could make all the o's in the saying into softballs....???

I made the coolest tye dye cake for my 10 yr old daughter 2weeks ago. I colors portions of white cake mix (I used 2 mixes) 6 different bright colors and layered them in the pan. As it rose they swirled around each other and came out so cool! You should have heard the Ohhhs and Ahhhs from the crowd when we cut into it! Maybe you could try that.

Wow! Thank you so much everyone. My friend just called and saw a picture online and described it as having lava lamps, peace signs, and flowers on it so I'm just going to go with a solid background and maybe a multi-color border with the lamp, peace sign, few flowers, and her name on it. I'm looking at some clip are right now. Thanks again.
