i want to see how long people have been doing this..professionally or not.
i see many of the same people giving me great advice! and i just wonder how long ya'll have been decorating, if you went to school, and if you sell your cakes!
lets keep it BRIEF!
im new! since august or so..
im going to school fall 07' for an associated degree in baking and pastry
i give my cakes away like hotcakes!
I started about 2 years ago decorating(been baking all my life), stopped after taking wilton class 1(got discouraged) then picked it back up half year ago. I plan to go professional in college later when i get the chance. I want ot start selling mycakes for extra money ,but i'm waiting a little for some things to happen before i start.
Decorating since 1977 on and off for family
Working for the last 6 yrs as a decorator at Costco
Just became legal last month getting ready to retire at Costco and continue my hobby DECORATING.
Never owned a pastry bag until last September. Tool all three Wilton classes.
Before then, I thought I made a real cute cake by using fruit roll up to make a bow. I didn't know what fondant was. ![]()
Don't sell my cakes, just give them as gifts.
Would love to take orders but haven't had the chance. Someday my talents will be discovered by the masses. ![]()
Consider myself good enough decorator but so computer illiterate that I can't up-load my creations. That's my only frustration...I want to share but so far am unable.
thanks for asking,
mommachris
I just took my first Wilton class a month ago.
That's when the obsession started. I'm taking course II, now.
So, it's been a month and I'm definitely enjoying it. I just want to become good and do cakes for friends and family. I don't really have any plans on owning a business or anything like that.

keep it brief??
.......... as in the whole thread or just each post? ![]()
Decorating as official hobby since 1999.
I've been paid for some, and but usually I don't get paid for them...but since I don't do it enough I am not totally loosing out...I'm still having fun with them so to me that's what matters.
Since I started on this site, I have definetely expanded my baking creativity/abilities...maybe one day I will open a little bakery/coffee shop
Got my culinary degree in 1998.
Been decorating cakes for 2 years.
Sell them "under the radar".
Working towards becoming a legal home-based business.
I started decorating cakes about a year ago, and am self taught, with the help of wilton.com and CC. I am now in my first decoratoring class.
So far only doing this for family and friends. I would sell some if I ever had a customer. ![]()
P.S. About 25 years ago my sister and I made our other sisters wedding cake. Boy was that an experience.

My friend took me to a Wilton course around August last year & since then I've become obsessed with cakes and decorating!! I never thought I could have sooo much fun doing this!
I don't sell any - just make them for fun for family & friends. I'm thinking of a career change after my maternity leave is over in October though.... I think I'd much rather work in a bakery than my old office job!!
And I'm sooo delighted to have found this website because I have tried lots of new things & gotten great tips & advice! I LOVE IT HERE!
