Well I got an email from someone who said they found my work through this site. They asked if I would do cakes for them. They own a business that does parties and wanted someone to do cakes so they could offer that as an added thing that they had to offer.

I spoke to the person on the phone and explained I didn't sell cakes as I am not licenesed and only worked out of my home. They didn't care. Said that was fine as the last cake person they had was the same way.

The first order was for them and a party they were having. They needed 5 cakes.

At first I said yes. I thought it was a good chance to make some good money. My friend offered to help me with the five cakes.

Today I noticed I was going to be going on vacation the week the cakes were due. I've already paid for the trip and can't get out of it. But thought it would be ok as my friend was going to help.

But I got an email saying she couldn't help so I sent the person who was having the party saying I was sorry but couldn't do the cakes. There was no way I could do 5 cakes in two days.

Now I'm thinking it was best I said no since I'm not legal anyway and while most likely that wouldn't have caused a problem but who knows.

I'm sure by saying no they will not use me for their business so I lost out on that.

Do you think I did the right thing? Would you have still tried to get the cakes done? Would you say yes to selling cakes to someone if they said they didn't care if you were legal or not?

I think you did the right thing...not because of legalities but stress. When I am going out of town, I am usually pulling my hair out trying to pack, laundry, clean and set up house/pet sitters, etc. Trying to do cake, or in your case, 5 cakes on top of all that would push me right over the edge! Especially if I accepted the job thinking I would have extra help, which fell thru. Have fun on your trip icon_smile.gif

Thanks! I figured I could try to bake all the cakes and then spend the night I got home until Friday even doing the cakes. I may be able to do them but I'm sure I would go crazy by then.

My big problem was not being legal. I just wasn't sure if I should do it or not. The money would be great! But I think I would feel bad with every cake I did.

i know how hard it must feel, thinking you missed out on a big opportunity. but you'll have lots more chances to show off your work, and do cakes for people. especially if you decide to get liscensed! enjoy your vacation, and have some peace of mind knowing that yes, you did the right thing. thumbs_up.gif
