I was so shocked to just hear that they believe the pet food was accidently tainted with rat poision. How could that happen? It's sooo sad and I'm worried what accidentily may get tainted next?

Michele

PS so sorry for anyone affected by this, I'm very sorry.

I ran out and checked my cats food when I found out. They are safe, but sorry for those whose pets are not.

I brought everything back to the store whether it was on the list or not. I do not trust the first list. The animals will just eat leftovers for a while. LOL They will just have to put up with home cooked meals.

I am so confused about the list. I was told that it had dry food on it when it first came out but my vet says I am wrong.

As far as I know from the beginning they were saying that dry food was not affected. It involved pouch and can "cuts and gravy".

I work in an emergency animal hospital--you would not belive the way some of the information has snowballed!

Some newscasts were reporting that other brands of pet food were included in the recall which never were . . . other newscasts said that some human cereal products were being recalled for using the same wheat products . . . none of that is true.

It's incredibly unfortunate that so many people's pets are being affected by this recall. According to the CVMA less than 20 pets have been confirmed to have died from eating this tainted food--although they do expect that number to grow. However, EVERYONE who has rushed their pets into our office for bloodwork because they were convinced their pets were sick from the food--well, not one patient had any abnormal values related to eating tainted food. (And only one client so far has actually found a confirmed can of recalled food in her pantry.)

Again, if anyone thinks for one moment that their pet got any recalled food, go to menufoods.com/recall and check that your brand of pet food is definitely on this list. If your pet has been exposed to contaminated food, call your DVM for recommendations.

Wish we were as lucky as you are in this part of the country. icon_cry.gif We have had 1000s of calls in the last week. Multiple cases of confirmed tainted food poisioning. I saw 2 just this am. One owner brought the can of food with them. We are seeing high BUN and Creat. levels, along with GI upset. We haven't lost any pets that the owners have decided to treat---yet. I have had a few owners elect not to do treatment and have lost their pets unfortunately. Supportive therapy with IV is helping. What we are hearing from a client that joined a class action law-suit (2 of her pets were treated and released) is that the company that sold the tainted product suspected it in DECEMBER.

Newtodecorating, Are you a vet? I am asking because I have been having a problem with one of my dogs and in all the test we did the BUN test came back extemely high twice with no other indications as to what the problem was. The test were done in December 2006. I just emailed my vet about your statement on the BUN test so that he could check into this possibility.

I also work at a vet clinic...we have had 1000s of calls also. Luckily, we have had no upsets in our office. Yeah, I agree that the info has snowballed a lot-but doesn't it always. Good luck to anyone who has had trouble and to all who work in the field!!
