Cast Iron Lamb Mold

I have a question about a cast iron lamb mold that I purchased at a yard sale yesterday. If this is a dumb question then please bare with me but how far should I fill it up? I have never used one of these before and I am completely clueless. As you can tell by my photos, I am not really very good at decorating but I do love trying. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

is this a 3-D pan with 2 halves??? I usually fill my pans 2/3 full. I then level off any excess with my leveler or sharp knife. icon_smile.gif

Yes, it has two halves that fit together tight. Any suggestion with using cast iron? Do I need to bake at a certain temp? I have only used cast iron to bake cornbread.

I am thinking I would lower the oven temp to 325. You might also check it after 30 minutes or so to check for doneness. I have never used cast iron to bake with but i know it gets really hot. My dad has a whole collection of the frying pans. icon_smile.gif

are you sure it is a cake mold and not a chocolate mold?

many old chocolate molds were cast metal (go to ebay and type in chocolate molds and you might even see yours there)

I just looked on Ebay and it shows it to be a cake mold. So I guess I will try to bake a cake in it tommorrow. Thanks for all the advice!! If it looks like anything at all I will post a pic of it when it's done.
