the chamber of commerce in my city has requested for me to do a cake for their teacher appreciation ceremony on Tuesday. It is an event that will have about 300 people in attendance so there will be a lot of exposure for me. My thoughts were that I wanted to do a tiered cake (dummies) for the table center piece and then have large sheet cakes in the back that we will actually serve. Does anyone have any suggestions for my tiered cake? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Any suggestions are greatly appreciated and pictures are loved icon_biggrin.gif I really want to impress.
thanks

What about fondant/and or marzipan apples, pencils, etc.? If I could think how to come up with the right color, I suppose you could always make the cake look like a chalkboard and write stuff on it that a teacher would. I don't really have any ideas, but I thought I would try and at least give you a bump.

Or since the colors of a chalkboard would probably be kinda ugly, you could always do it as a white board since a lot of schools use those now too.

How about making the cake an apple? You may have to Shape it a bit and you could have more than one. Also maybe Books ! You could have each layer decorated as the spine (with titles) of different books - it would look like a stack of books.

Not sure I can add anything as a suggestion for the cake itself, but there is a verse I used on all of my teacher cakes when my kids were in school

A Teacher effects eternity
They can never tell where their influence will stop

I looked in the gallery but could not really find anything. I am thinking of doing like a 3 tier stacked and then maybe laying fondant over in kind of a gray/marbelized color (kind of like a chalkboard) and then around the bottom border of each cake do like a yellow band and make look like a ruler and put stuff like ABC & 123 around the "chalk board" what do you all think of this? What type of topper should I do?

I had several teachers who always had a teacher type coffee mug to hold pencils, pens, etc. Could you make something like that for a topper?
