Ok. I'm totally in over my head..... I need your opinion. Which would you rather do with volunteer help (basically extra hands
):
1. Bake & decorate 1000 cookies
2. Bake and decorate 300 4" cakes (simple buttercream frosting & border with some simple deco on top)
The way I see it: pros for #1 is they can be done much earlier. Pros for #2 is 1/3 less items to have to deal with.
Did I mention I volunteered to do this?! Moments of insanity. LOL. It's for a fundraiser for a program I benefited from so I felt like I should help, plus hubby doesn't let me deco much and so I was suffering from cake withdrawls...... ![]()

i personally don't like doing cookies.... so i'd take the cakes!! but thats my personal thing. cookies don't hold much enjoyment for me. and wow... are you going to need LOTS of "extra" hands or what!! ![]()
be sure to post the pics!
oh, heres another thought. have you considered sheet cakes? it would take forever and a tone of pans to do that many 4 inch cakes. i think sheets would go much faster.
it's the dessert course for a fashion show luncheon that is to raise money for the scholarship program. It's $35 a ticket and people also buy raffle tickets for each tables centerpiece (approx. $50 value each and for other raffle prizes). So are hoping each person spends at least 20 on tickets too. So, they are really looking for that "wow" factor. The cookies would be a four pack (1 dress, 1 shoe, 1 purse and 1 hat cookies) packaged in a "purse" container.

I'm worried about quality control with too many hands too. If they don't look good you lose the "wow" factor.
I absolutely don't do teeny cakes, so it's cookies for me! The cake may be less items, but they are more work, more boxes for transport and the transport iteself.
If you have extra hands and want to keep the quality consistent, set it up like an assembly line. One person does shoes, one does the purse, etc. Or one person ices the base coat, one person does the outline. Each person does his assigned task with consistency and overall the cookies look the same. If you have each person doing sets of the 4 cookies, then each set will look different.
