Ok so if you know about my spatula you will know now that after all the work I decided not to sell this cake if you don't know about the spatula here's the post I made earlier

Ok so I'm making cake and my rubber spatula just popped from William Sonoma too I paid big money for the sucker thinking I was buying quality anyways the part of the stick that goes inside the rubber part was black with mold!!!!!!!!!! I mean the sucker had eyes and everything how can they possibly sell these things if they are as unsanitary as they come !!!!!!! I have been using this for cakes left and right I cook with these I went straight to the trash wait maybe I should take it to the store they need to know about this or am I the only who didn't know people have these everywhere and not just the ones from WS I think all rubber spatulas are the same oh my cat should I start this cake all over!!!!!!! I use them to scrape batter too not just icing... I am so freaking out right now!!!!! What am I going to do????? the black mold is not on the outside part of the stick but is growing on the same stick people can get really sick from this!!! Just wanted to share

Ok so I decided icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif after all this work not to sell this cake I called the lady and simply told her the cake had an accident and could not do it all over again by tomorrow morning I apoligized but I was not going to take my chances anyone getting sick I decided to go ahead and decorated it and we'll take our chances icon_lol.gif

I guess looking at it from a bright side I can say may be my next fairy cake will be better.

Ok so I tell my husband my cake didn't make any sense because how often do you see grass growing on dead trees he says "how often do you fairies siiting on them?" something funny

Critique away

Hi, I have those spatulas, too. When you clean them, you are supposed to remove the handle from the rubber part and run them through your dishwahser separately and then let both parts completely air dry before re-assembling.

Sorry this happened to you! The cake is cute, even if it's potentially inedible.

I am feeling so badly for you, icingandsprinkles! Your cake is so cute and beautifully decorated.

On the spatulas.............I have the Le Creuset silicon spatula set and love them! I do not have the mold issue to worry about and that is a big reason I purchased them all. The handles easily slip off from the silicon piece for cleaning but do not come off when cooking/mixing with them. They are a great investment for your hobby if you plan to replace the ones you currently have. The other reason I purchased them is I can use them in all of my cookware and they will not melt nor will they cause any scratches.

I am so sorry about your black mold problem and your cake! icon_sad.gif

Your cake is so cute! I hope your customer was understanding about it.

As for the spatula, mine did this within 1 week of purchase and I returned it to the store for a credit. I bought something else and purchased a spatula that came apart for cleaning and dried more easily (stainless steel handle) and I haven't had a problem since!

I recommend the Pampered Chef spatulas. They are all fused as one piece. I invested in the entire set for cakes and icing.

I love the WS spatulas and spoonulas but I buy the whitish translucent ones and I separate them from the wooden handle to wash and dry them. I guess if I bought the colored ones I would be in the same boat as you -- I wouldn't know they were mold traps, but it is easy to see with mine and easy to pull apart.

The cake is adorable.

I would take the spatula to the store as well, though I don't know that it will do any good. I just buy the cheap ones, then it doesn't hurt to throw them away.

I think you did a wonderful job on the cake ... I'm so sorry about the spatula thing. I'm going to have to check mine too now ... and btw, grass can grow up through cracks on a tree stump.. grass grows through cracks in the sidewalks, highway cracks, just about anywhere you don't want it to grow lol .. again, your cake looks just wonderful!!

I use the KA one that came with my KA. It, too, pulls apart for cleaning. I love it but have never seen it in any store......
