I was hoping that some of my CC friends could answer some questions I have on rice paper. I am doing a cake and am thinking of doing some accent pieces to the cake using by tracing the figures I want to use with rice paper instead of fondant. So, here are some of my questions - 1) Can I trace over the drawings using rice paper and edible markers? 2) if I want the rice paper to be let's say an orange color - do I have to spray paint it or if the drawing is small enough can I just "color" it with the edible markers? 3) if i do spray paint or color in the rice paper, does it get soft? 4) when placing the rice paper accent piece on a buttercream cake - does it soften so much that the drawn on the rice paper fade and bleed? Please help me on this!!

.....If u spray paint the paper, it will wrinkle.....you can draw on the paper but be careful......you can also print if you have the printer for that...or u can pipe over the pic...if u do a search you will find some answers to your question. (this question have been ask once before)...I hope i at least answer some of them..if not here goes a bump for you..good luck..also remember its really early so give some time pretty sure some one else will come along.....

All I can help you with is to let you know that you can print with a Kopykake printer on RP and that when you place it on the cake, the color stays good.

if you airbrush or spray colour onto wafer paper it curls, great for when you want fall leaves!! you can colour with markers but you must press lightly and keep the tip moving, if you stay in one place too long the paper will start to become soggy and or melt. after you have sprayed or coloured you can put the pieces inside a book to make them dry flat. once on the cake it will not dissolve completely and the colours should not bleed off.

1. Yes - just use a light hand
2. Like the other person said, it will wrinkle.
3. Even if it didn't wrinkle you still don't want to use too much moisture on it or it will start to dissolve on you.
4. It shouldn't soften too much that it would bled or fade - especially if you are crusted (well, not YOU but the frosting, lol) already.

Hope this helped!

Yeah, you can color it in and place it on the cake right away. I've done it before with no dire consequence.
Just remember to do it gently as to not tear the paper.

Good luck and have FUN!

Don't be silly! Questions are important. It's how we get answers and learn! I ask lots of Q's myself!

As far as writing in Buttercream....I can't help you there.
I can tell you that you can color the rice paper like a coloring book (with light hand) but to be easy and careful as your paper could curl.

The good thing is, rice paper is cheap, lol. So, you can make a mistake while learning to work with it and not loose too much but your time.

Don't remember if it was rice paper or wafer paper (not sure which one is thinner than the other!), but you can buy it already colored. Maybe you could sort-of piece things together like paper dolls. Using the pre-colored paper may help.

I've used ediable markers and traced a design with no problems. I cut out the design, placed in ontop of buttercream and filled in the picture with colored piping gel and a paint brush. I'll post a picture of the result when I get to my home computer. Good luck!
