Okay, so I got my first wedding cake ordericon_smile.gif yeah! However, I have a question... she is ordering a 3 tier buttercream for the brides cake and a strawberry covered sheetcake for grooms, it is for 100 people... do I need to make the brides cake to feed 100?? how many servings should the brides and the grooms cake serve?

when I do my wedding cakes, I make the brides cake to feed the specified number. and then just make whatever size grooms cake is ordered. I do not consider the grooms cake as part of the number of people.

I combine the servings for both the bride's cake and the groom's cake.....

Are both cakes being cut at the reception? If so, just ask her how many she wants each to serve. Is she going to save her top tier? You may also want to mention to the bride that some people may want to sample both. All this can determine how large to do the sheetcake and tiered cake. Sometimes brides don't think about all these details and you have to kind of point them out to them. I am sure she will appreciate that you are being thorough.
Good luck. I'm sure everything will go great!

Oh, please don't ever assume when it comes to wedding cakes. You must ask the bride how many she wants the wedding cake to serve. This will also help you figure what size pan to use for each tier.

Yes, the bride's cake should feed everyone, unless your customers specify otherwise.
A rule of thumb I have for groom's cakes that are served at weddings (sometimes I've done them for rehearsal dinners) are that they are about 20 servings (unless the couple specifies otherwise). And it is charged separately from the wedding cake.
My average wedding cake is for 120-150 people, so this size groom's cake always seems to fit just right into the scheme of things.
Hope this helps.

In my experience some brides want the servings between the brides cake and grooms cake to fit their guest count and others want the groom's cake extra. I just ask them. Most of them have the groom's cake as extra though.

I'm in the "ask the bride what she wants" column. So far, all groom's cakes I have done have been just a little side cake. If they are expecting 100 guests, the wedding cake is for 100 and the groom's cake that serves 15-20 is on the side.
