Okay here's the deal, a friend from work has offered one of her friends that she would make her wedding cake & groom's cake. She's never made a wedding cake, so I've offered to help with what ever she needs(i.e, pans, fountain, delivery, whatever she needs help with). We are going to meet the bride and her mother Sunday for lunch, and I would like to have some ideas to pitch for the groom's cake(she's already got some ideas for the bridal cake). Dana( my friend from work) said that "they don't care, whatever we come up with will be great". Needless to say, I have my doubts. icon_twisted.gif

a few of the tidbits of info about the bride & groom are that they are both pharmacists that went to Kansas University. At this point this is all I know about them.

A couple of ideas I had:
I was thinking about 12" rounds and a 16 or 18 round and cutting them in half and stacking them to make a pill bottle. With the script made out to them....and to live happily ever after.

Or possibly doing a KU jersey out of a sheet cake.

Any other suggestions/ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!!!

Thanks!!!

When I think pharmacy I think of the old "mortar and pestle" logo.

Being a HUGE Jayhawks fan I would say something with the Jayhawk. But that is just me. I guess it really depends on the bride and groom and what they like. But it would be pretty cool to do a blue cake with a red border and then some kind of a transfer with the Jayhawk.

HTH

By the way GO JAYHAWKS!!!! Elite 8 bound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

worked as clerk in pharmacy in HS and college.

this was what I remember most about the pharmacists (that and their frustration trying to read Dr's handwriting)

easy to adapt to cake.

and instead of pills .....

little hearts (those valentine's candy type) that could spell out a message

I had also thought about doing FBCT with the Jayhawk. I've been scoping people icon_twisted.gif at work & neighbors that have flags & T-shirts with a large Jayhawk.

I've also got an image of the Pharmacy program @ KU that has both the motar & petal & the Jayhawk. But the image isn't very big and it pixelizes(?) when I try to blow it up.

Jenae,
Noticed that you are from KS. Didn't see that before. How far are you from Lawrence? My husband and I are huge KU fans. A kid from ND was one of their top players a few yrs ago and now a girl from ND is playing for the girls team. My cousin was also a nurse at the KU Hospital. Until she was hit by a drunk driver. Anywho.... I wonder if you called the college if they could send you a better image? Guess it would be worth a try. Because that sounds like a really neat idea.

addendum to previous idea:

Jayhawks logo on base of counter.

Instead of pills -- basketballs (could use those small chocolate balls wrapped in foil that look like basketballs)

I love the pill bottle idea with the happily ever after. Maybe on the lid you could put the Jayhawk(?).
If you go to www.weddingcakesbyjimsmeal.com He has a doctors coat/black belt grooms cake. You could make the doctors coat and put the Jayhawk above the pocket.
Have fun!!!

All of these are wonderful ideas!! I really appreciate your help!!

lilkimberb-I'm about 45 min. from Lawrence, and about 15 min from hospital.

I REALLY like to the doctor's coat idea-

I'll have a better idea after Sunday when I meet the bride.

Just a follow up post...
I got thrown a curveball on the grooms's cake.

We're now going with a "cooler" cake, with beer bottles/cans in it.

I did search yesterday when I got back from Lawrence, and came up with a couple picts. I really like the "bucket" cooler, thumbs_up.gif

I am excited to try the sugar beer bottles.

I really appreciate all of your guidance and assistance!!
