I was just wondering if St. Patrick's day is a day you celebrate as a holiday. I do but for a different reason. It's my birthday! Just wondering if anyone does anything special, like go drink green beer! icon_lol.gif

My mother's side of the family is from Ireland and we always get together and celebrate St. Patricks day with the cousins etc. We either have a party at one or the others house and everything served is an Irish dish and lots of Irish toasts and jokes or we go to an Irish pub and celebrate there.

Mine too, birthday I mean. Since we're German, we don't really celebrate St Patrick's, a pity, since I really like the leprechauns (and the idea of the pot of gold)

My son was born on St. Pat's and will be 38 this year. I have always bought him something with a shamrock on it for every birthday. Two years ago I bought all the Budweiser St. Pat's steins for him on Ebay.

Owned a bar for 13 years and always had a St. Pat's party but I refused to serve green beer as they sight of it gagged me. icon_lol.gif

This year my Red Hat group is coming to my house on the 14th. I am cohosting with our most senior member (she'll be 88 next month) who was my mother's best friend. We are having everything green or Irish--Broccoli Soup, Green Salad, Baked Irish Potatoes with all the toppings we can think of, Irish Cream Cheesecake, Green Apple Pucker, and Green Tea. Plan on decorating with shamrocks. For fun we have asked everyone to bring a picture, yearbook, scrapbook, or something from their high school years to share.

So yes, I celebrate it every year also! thumbs_up.gif

That's great! It's always nice to catch up with friends. The green beer thing is big around here, not a big fan myself. My sons school even serves green milk! icon_lol.gif

In the part of Australia where I live St. Patrick's Day is a real celebration.
We have quite a few Irish Pubs which will be decked out in green. The green beer flows freely. We don't have a holiday. Some of the corporate world have different things going on in their own offices to enjoy the day. Any excuse for a party. When my children were at school they were allowed to wear something green for the day, which was not the school uniform. One year they were asked to bring some green food to be sold to raise money for a local charity.
I have an Aunty whose birthday is on St. Patrick's Day, actually my mother has just had hers on St Valentine"s day, must be something in the water here.
Just a few things happening down under.

I'm not Irish, but sometimes it's fun to get a group together and go out in search of corned beef and cabbage. It's amazing how many people have never tried it.

There's another chapter to that story. I've never tried it and don't intend to. I can't get passed the smell of it!!!!!!! Love raw cabbage but can't handle the cooked stuff!! My daughter in law was just talking about it at dinner and I about threw up! My son's birthday is on St. Pat's so she always fixes it for him.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! & Happy Birthday to all you irish babies!
My son wore green of course to school today and their homework assignment last night was to make a lepherchan trap. Just something fun and for them to think about!
Hope you celebrate today for whatever reason, and enjoy the day.

Happy 50th! My son is 38 today. Fifty isn't so bad. It's time to find you a Red Hat Society Chapter to join. We have a blast!
