I need a filling for my Wilton class 2 birdhouse cake. It will probably be either a white or yellow cake. I really like raspberry, but dh doesn't. And i'm so tired of just filling with extra buttercream.

So what sounds good with White or Yellow cake?? icon_smile.gif

strawberry?

lemon curd?

nutella?

most any flavor of jam would do -- what do both of you like?

lemon curd is delightful

Maybe you could try a lemon curd on one layer and a strawberry on another. that sound REALLY good.

For my final I made choc cake, choc buttercream, and peanut butter filling. It was yummy. My only suggestion is that because the layers are so thick, you might torte and fill each one. I wish I would have done that.

Well Strawberyy is out, i'm quite allergic to strawberries.

Nutella?? OMG that sounds yummy!! never thought to use that on a cake! Would you need to add milk or something to make it a bit more spreadable??

Might have to try the lemon curd too!

Keep em' coming!!

I posted a recipe called Peanut Butter Mousse. it uses 2 cups of Peanut Butter. Isn't Nutella an Italian form of PB? (According to Giada) I was wondering about swapping out the PB for the Nutella for a Choc. Hazelnut Cake Filling. Maybe that would work. If you try it let me know so that I can do it myself. Here's the link to the PB filling.

Nutella is not a form of peanut butter, it's a chocolate hazelnut spread.

I would also like to know if you just use it "straight" for a filling or mix with something to thin?

I've seen where some people fold whipped cream into it. I've seen some people use it straight. I've seen some people put buttercream into it.

It just depends on the texture you're looking for.

I know Nutella is a Choc. Hazelnut spread. I was just saying that if you ever watch Everyday Italian, Giada always says that in Italy, they use Nutella like we use PB.
