My husband and I need dental insurance. We need a good plan that does not cost an arm and a leg (because the health insurance probably wouldn't cover the amputations icon_lol.gif ) and we need something that does not have a long waiting period. I hope someone can offer some advice.

TIA,
Chrissy

We don't have it here and I've asked a lot of people. Most conclude that it's best to just take really good care of your teeth and pay for a cleaning once or twice a year in cash. Many dentists give cash discounts. Call around for the prices of cleanings. I pay $100.00 for cleaning and x-rays, and he does a great job. Sears dental is another option, but I think they charge a bit more and I've heard they aren't the best at their work, but for a basic cleaning I wouldn't worry about it.

Most dental insurance is expensive. More that a few cleanings per year and a cavity now and then will cost you. It may be different in other states but my 99.00 cleanings are fine for me.

I wish it was that simple. I need my wisdom teeth removed and DH needs at least two root canals!

Try http://www.dentalplans.com/. You can type in your zip code and then they show you a list of plans in your area. Then you click compare plans, and they'll show you how much per year for a family, what's included, how much cleanings are, etc. Starmark is the one that's looking best for my area and I think I'm going to get it. It's $169 a year for a family plan, and cleanings are free, check-ups are free, x-rays are free, except for panoramic which is $25. Fillings are $50, adult or child, and a root canal is $485. You get a 25% discount on oral surgeons to get your wisdom teeth out. The comparison tells you how much for a root canal, a crown, etc. for each company and you can compare them across the board. Also, with the Starmark plan I'm looking at for me and hubby, each family member can choose their own dentist. You don't have to have one primary dentist for everyone. Hope this helps!!!

i recently bought dental insurance and i pay $30 a month?

i used the website http://www.ehealthinsurance.com/

you can compare different plans and read them side by side, they have a big range of prices and plans to check out

i really liked it! you put in an application to be accepted, and the ehealthinsurance sets it all up for you..kinda hard to explain but easy to use!

dental insurance has waiting periods though so if you needed something i would get it asap..like you have to wait 3 months before major coverage kicks in on some plans..and 6 months on others, ya know?

hope this helps!

Hi, I have worked in a dental office for 18 years!!!BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN CHOOSING A PLAN!! DO NOT GO FOR THE CHEAPEST!!
If you do some research I may be able to guide you in the right direction.
I will actually ask my boss wha he thinks. I see you live in NC. I know in CA we reccommed Blue Cross Prudent Buyer NOT the HMO!!!!
