Anyone have any ideas for a quick and easy snack idea for 8 women? My Bible study meets tomorrow night and I was just reminded that it's my night to bring snacks. I'm not prepared!
Not sure what to bring, but have talked myself out of a desert. Want something that's fun to eat and not too heavy. Any ideas?
Honestly I'd like to do something kind of original.
This is a sweet apple dip... It is soooo good
8oz of cream cheese and melt in microwave then add small tub of cool whip mix together.
Spred flat in a pan then top with caramel topping that you find by the apples. Can sprinkle with nuts if you like
Slice applea and dip away! sooo yummy! Everytime I serve it people ask how to make it and rave about it
When you add nuts, what kind do you usually use?
Also, apples turn brown pretty quick, you think I should wait to cut them until we're ready to eat? That's the only thing I'm not sure about. We usually bring the snack, sit it on a table, then eat it about an hour into our study. Is there a way to keep sliced apples fresh? ![]()
You can put lemon juice on sliced apples to keep them from getting brown. After cutting them up, I would put them in the refrigerator. Also, I noticed that you said you had to buy "whipping cream," but Florimbio said "Cool Whip" - just wanted to point that out so you don't buy the wrong thing! ![]()
Thanks for that correction! So, you think they'd keep ok if I rubbed lemon juice on the apples, threw them in a ziplock and kept them refrigerated? How long does the lemon juice preserve the apples? I might experiment with this tonight. ![]()
This just sounds so delicious I want to make it work! I've never worked with caramel before so another concern I have is will it harden at room temperature? If so, might not be good for dipping upon arriving at the event? Can anyone reassure me otherwise? ![]()
Yes, I think that would work with the apples. Actually, don't even think you have to rub the apples with the lemon juice - just sprinkle some all over them.
Regarding the caramel mentioned by Florimbio -
top with caramel topping that you find by the apples
- If I understand correctly, I think Florimbio is referring to the "caramel dip" type stuff that is usually sold in supermarkets nears the apples in the produce dept. It is a caramel dip in a plastic tub (like a sour cream tub) with a lid - it is soft and "dippable" in consistency and it is stored at room temperature. Look for the T. Marzetti brand.
If you're looking for something more of an appetizer, here's something really good.
Tortillas Pinwheels
1 package of cream cheese (250g)
125ml sour cream (half a small container)
half a can of chopped green chilies
1/4 cup of finely chopped jalapeno peppers
3/4 cup of grated cheddar cheese
You can also add olives if you wish, or anything else for that matter.
Spread some of the mixture on a tortilla and roll. Cover with Saran wrap, twisting the ends tightly and leave in refrigerator overnight. To serve, cut in slices and enjoy!!!
The tortilla pinwheels sound yummy too! Appreciate the recipe.
Might have to try it next time around. ![]()
I've bought all I need for the apple dip and wonder about the cream cheese in the microwave... do you just soften or are you warming it a lot? I actually had forgot that you'd mentioned this and I've already combined my cool whip and cream cheese, so my version will no doubt be a little different, but I'm serving it cold rather than warm. Not sure if this is what you do?
I combined the two, then when I arrive at the women's group I'll top it with the caramel. I'm sure it will be awesome!
Still, I am now asking myself if you serve the dip warm or cold or maybe just room temperature? The caramel will be at room temp when I arrive and the cool whip/cream cheese will be chilled.
Thanks again for the great recipes!! ![]()
Florimbio,
Just an update, the ladies loved the dip!! Thanks again for sharing this. We didn't have the best turn out last night, but the dip was nearly gone by the time clean-up came around.
Two of the women in particular made repeat trips to the snack table! lol
Many thanks! ![]()
