Okay ladies, I am going to take the plunge and buy a printer for my cake decorating. I've gone to CopyCake.com per your suggestion and I'm having a hard time choosing a printer! I already have a photo printer that I use for scrapbooking but was advised by tech support at CC that it will not work with their software or ink cartridges. Has anyone had any bad experiences with their printer that they can steer me away from or any rave reviews for the one they love?
I found most of the printers listed on CC at Tiger Direct.com and most are a little over $100. which is not a ton of money but $100 bucks is a $100 bucks and would like to prevent any mistakes if possible.
Would appreciate your help with this.
Best regards,
Theresa
I own a Canon i350 and I'm really pleased with it. When I bought it, I only paid $48 with free ship at Amazon. I also like that the edible ink cartridges are so inexpensive for a 2 cartridge system. I refill the cartridges too and that's a big $ saver. Problems with it though are that once you start refilling the cartridges, your print head will clog more often. If you don't refill, the tricolor (3 colors in one) cartridge has to be replaced when just one color runs out. The most recent 2 cartridge Canon system out right now is the iP1500.
If I were to purchase a printer today, I'd buy the Canon iP3000. It's a 4 cartridge printer which is the least expensive type of system to maintain and operate. You can still find these new at some online stores and on eBay.
Personally, I would avoid 5, 6 and 8 cartridge systems (unless you're going for wide format) because of the added expense without added benefits. I would also avoid using Epson printers for edible imaging because of the problems associated with clogged print heads and because the print head can't be easily removed for cleaning or replacement.

Wow, Lisa, thanks for your quick and helpful response. Yes, I have noticed the issue of clogged heads with my Epson photo printer. I have to use a quarter of a new cartridge before I can blow out the heads if I have not printed in a while. Thanks for the tip about Canon, I will certainly steer in that direction.
Best regards,
Theresa
