I am going to be making my first loopy bow. I've seen several tutorials on this subject (including the one here on CC) and there is one thing I'm worried about, the "glue" showing through the bow! I used a deep red luster dust on the loops so coloring the glue (candy melts or royal) won't work. Anyone have any suggestions? I've seen bows before were you can see how they attached it and I just don't like the way that loops. Especially with this red being so deep, it will be very noticeable. Thanks in advance! icon_biggrin.gif

Why can't you color the 'royal glue' a deep red as well?

why don't you color the fondant red......let the pieces dry.......attatch them together using water as your "glue" and then once it's all together......then go over it with the luster dust

Well, the luster dust is a really different color red, it's rouge flambe. http://www.ckproducts.com/productdetails.asp?getresults=1544 I wouldn't be able to get that color just using Americolor, I don't think.

And KHalstead, I think you need more than just water to attach these loops, right?

How about red candy melts?? I like using candy melts since they get hard pretty fast.

If you can color the royal icing a color similar to the dust it should help. That luster dust looks like a reddish orange to me (mainly red, but a little orangey). If you could do that to the royal it would be as obvious as white.

That's what I do anyway.

Wow, Mamafrogcakes, you're a fussy one!icon_smile.gif I don't think anyone is going to look that closely and see that the inside is 2 shades off of the outsides, or care! Candy melts are a great alternative to royal, but I wouldn't trust just water! I'd make a big soggy mess!

Also, do you have an airbrush? If you do you could just airbrush it all after you put it together.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions----
Tastycakes, I don't think that I'm being fussy I just felt that the two colors not coming even close to matching may look pretty obvious. My cakes may not be perfect but when trying something new I'm going to try my best to make it look as good as I can. And if that means asking everyones opinions, then I will. After all, that's why we're here, right?

NO, I don't have an airbrush, I was thinking about trying to paint the luster in the areas that it may be noticeable icon_confused.gif I think I just picked the wrong color of luster b/c this is a different one! All the tutorials I've seen, their candy melts or royal are just the perfect color!

Mamafrogcakes, I didn't mean to offend you! Don't get frustrated! It'll get figured out! I'm a perfectionist myself sometimes, so really, I empathize with you!

I think you're right to try and get the color as close as possible and then try to paint it to match where you can reach! You'll see when you put it together that if you don't really glob on the glue it won't show all that much!

I love you Mama, don't take me the wrong way! I was trying to make a funny! Didn't work!

How about using an alcohol based extract (like Vanilla) for your glue?? Don't know if it would work, but it does work for other fondant things.
