Hello all, I need to make a teapot cake this weekend. I will be driving for 5 hrs and it's down south Hot hot hot. So my question is what is the best cake mix to use for the sports ball pan. I heard that it should be a pound cake mix. Has anyone used the pound cake box mix from betty crocker? Do you doctor it at all? I usually use dunken hines mix and use the extender recipe for all my cakes but I am a little stump with this pan, Thanks for any suggestions.

I made a teapot for the Mid-Atlantic Cake Show. It was actually my second teapot. The first time, I used the Darn Good Chocolate Cake from the Cake Mix Doctor book. The second time, I just used a cheapo mix, since it wasn't going to get eaten.

The first one I baked Thursday or Friday, took it to a play Saturday night, then had the leftovers Sunday morning. Still yummy. I didn't have trouble with either of them - in fact, the one from the MACS just started to sag. Just make sure you give it enough compression time before you cover it, and I found that 2 layers of fondant really help it hold its shape. I was in a bit of a hurry with the second one, so it is a bit more saggy than the first.

If you go to my website, you can see them both - www.queenbeecakes.com

Good luck!
