Ok, I have one of these celshape molds and need help from those who have used it before. I read the directions, but they seem to be lacking, or maybe my gumpaste just sucks. It didn't say to grease or dust the mold, so I didn't. It doesn't say to dry the gumpaste in the mold, so I tried to remove it right away, but it is sticking, stretching, and tearing. I'm begining to hate this product. Any tips, please?

Although I've never used one, I was just reading about them last night in the Int'l School of Sugarcraft book. It says you don't need to cornstarch or grease the mold prior to use. It says you should adequately fill the mold and trim excess with a pallette knife from the center outward. It then says to "Rub the surface well with a little vegetable fat on your finger and, using a large dressmaking pin, flick out the moulded piece." A little further on it says that on the smaller, intricate pieces (like snowflakes) you should loosen all the edges before trying to extricate it from the mold.

Does that help at all?

My directions did not have the shortening tip in it. I think I'll try a different gumpaste recipe. No matter what I do it does not "flick out". I wish it was that easy. Thanks though.

They definately do not "Flick out" of the molds! What a nightmare!

I'm ready to go back to roal icing for all my little "molding" adornments I need.

Gumpaste was horrible...pastillage was EVEN WORSE!

I bought 3 of these mold sheets...what a waste of money!

(I have them soaking in the sink right now to remove all the excess gumpaste and pastillage that refused to come out. Later I'll try using shortening...did it do any good?)

I use a 50/50 paste

50%gumpaste, 50% fondant. Most shapes comes out fine, except the snowflakes one icon_sad.gif and thats the one I love icon_sad.gif

I have read some where on nicholas lodge's site to use 50 50 mix as well as lightly dust your gum paste/fondant piece with a sm. amount of dusting powder or cornstarch before you put it in mold to help with the release. If you dust the mold it henders the ability of the gum paste/ fondant to pick up little details.

SweetArt - Please let us know how it works out for you. I'm glad you posted this as I was ready to spring for some because the decorations look so great (in the books!).
