I really need help. I'm doing a cake for a ladies 60th birthday and she is a member of the red hat society. They wanted IMBC but how can I possibly get a true red color with this? as well as a darker purple? I could really use help with this one!

Thanks so much!

Tammy

Have you tried Super Red from Americolor? I've gotten some nice reds when I've used it. Same with the purple colors.

I do use Americolor but I find with IMBC it doesn't take on color the same as buttercream or fondant. I'm thinking it's because of all of the butter...not to sure though.

How about adding yellow first, then orange then finally the red?
I've never tried this but it seems somewhat logical. icon_lol.gif

In the Whimsical Bakehouse book, the author recommends using candy colors which are oil based, rather than cake paste colors which are water based. I don't know how well it works in real life, I've only read about it.

Thats a good thought but yellow and red make orange and then if you add orange to it won't it come out orange instead of red? correct me if I am wrong.

I too would really like to know how to get a true red. I have used the americolor deep red and it still doesn't come out RED.

How about adding a bit of violet to counter act all the yellow in the butter then once you get it to white try the red?

This does work well. I've used Chefmaster candy colors and they are very intense.

Good luck!
