I want to make a ribbon out of MMF and would like it to have a sheen like a real ribbon. Does anyone know how to do this? I made MMF this weekend for the 1st time and it came out fantastic. The cake design I am thinking of doing is very simple and I would like to use an MMF ribbon on it. I haven't used any dusts yet and really an at a lose how to do it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

luster dusts is the best way mix them with some sort of extract (lemon....or whatever) or you can use some type of liquor...like vodka, rum, etc. and mix it with the powder of your choice of color......and then paint it on with a paint brush and allow to dry.......they're beautiful

I think I would dust with a luster dust in pearl or the same color as your bow.

Another option could be to use piping gel, perhaps slightly watered down. I used it yesterday as a glue for some fondant pieces and got it slightly on visible areas. It dried with a fairly glossy sheen.

Thanks everyone. There are so many things to learn, but practicing is really fun. I have some time, so I'll try each suggestion.

brush the finished bow with crisco and it will be shiny.

I have never worked with rolled buttercream so I don't know if you can use it to make a bow. However, it is really shiny without having to do anything to it. Maybe someone else will know if you can use it to make bows.
