Hi,
I have someone that wants me to bake a cake for them before they take a trip to Canada for their sisters surprise birthday party. My question is: Will they have any trouble getting it across the border? I don't think they should but I just want to make sure. I don't want them to pay for a cake and then have to leave it at a port.

Thanks

I'm sorry, I have no idea now a days. I've heard of people taking cakes on airplanes recently on cc, so depending on how they are travelling you should ask your customer to look into it before you go ahead with the order. If they can't cross the border with a cake, then I'm sure that someone on this side could help your customer out.

Call the customs office they should be able to advise you on that. They are changing the rules and regs so much it is hard to keep up.
I don't see a problem though; I am pretty sure they would allow it but call just in case I am wrong.

It's crossing the border the other way that's a headache. Canadians like cake...and beer...oh yeah and beavers and moose...eh!
Ok...I'll stop being silly now...LOL your safest bet would be to phone customs and ask them, that way there won't be ANY surprises at the border.

I cross the bridge all the time. Just make sure theres no fruit anywheres in or on your cake,as they make you toss that stuff out right in front of them. It really shouldn't be a problem , I have brought many a birthday cakes across the bridge and I have declared them with no problem. Good Luck Audrey

OK~Good to know about the fruit thing. They are going quite aways so no fruit because it would spoil. It is crazy I live in ND and only about 300 miles to the border and I have NEVER been to Canada. I guess I should have went before the US got all border crazy!!!

Ok...this might be helpfull to you. I didn't read through it but at least there's probably a phone number somwhere in it. I would think you're safe as long as there's no cheese or fruit in it. (Oh yeah and no beef...we like to keep our mad cows to ourselves...LOL so no beef birthday cakes!)
I hope it's helpful to you!

I'v been into Montana and it's GORGEOUS, my fiance has been to Wisconsin and said it was very nice as well...he was there during a state fair (we don't have those) and he ate the BIGGEST cream puff he's ever seen icon_cool.gif ...apparently quite yummy

Oh and I so wanted to make a beef cake!!! icon_sad.gif Yeah I plan on making it to Canada sometime. My aunt used to live in Fort Nelson and now lives in some town that starts with an E and it is above MT. So I want to go there and visit. I heard it is BEAUTIFUL. Not only that my hubby loves to hunt and wants to hunt or fish some of your huge animals up there

mthiberge and I live "relatively" close to Fort Nelson. Its the mosquito capital of Canada...So its a good thing you didn't vist when she lived there...

Does your aunt live in Edmonton? Its a great place to visit in the summer. Great weather, lots of fun things to do.

I would called customs for your best info. I know some people have made it across with stuff but others havent. It depends on how throughly they search your car.
Good luck

Sugarbean~I think that is probably it. So maybe someday I will get to come and visit. If I wouldn't have another trip planned to SD to gamle icon_redface.gif I would have gone along with my mom. But oh well some other time.
