amounts of Macaroni and cheese that is. icon_lol.gif I have been asked to make mac and cheese for our boy scout pack tomorrow night. they say there are about 200 people in our pack and that includes siblings etc. they will pay for everything. I have had a total brain freeze on how much to make to get at least half of 200. Should I make 8 pounds of macaroni and with the cheese and such I believe it would make 4 big roasting pans of it but I am so "stomach yucky" thinking of this. To top it off they are having an "Akela and me" cake bake where the Akela (parent) and scout bake and decorate a cake. My 8 year old is so heart broken that he didnt get anything from the pinewood derby race that he really wants to do something with the cake that perhaps will get him something.... he's designed a cake with 3 flavors and "go boy scouts" and "do your best" with the symbols of tiger, wolf, and bear. now if that isnt enough to make mommy sick i dont know what is...... oh did I say its all for tomorrow night? HELP

Is your normal recipe for just the family? Mine I think comes close to filling the BIG baking dish so I would take your recipe x4. Is it the main course or a side dish? that makes a difference also. I don't make it but maybe once every year or two cause I am the only one who likes homemade icon_sad.gif

all but one of my family loves my homemade mac and cheese.... and I usually make 16 oz of mac to 10 oz of cheese per the 16 oz mac. it's a side dish.. thats why I figured 8 pounds of mac but not sure how many that would feed.... this is just crazy let me tell you.... icon_smile.gif

as for the cake...I cant say it will be perfect but I know we can do something that might turn some eyes.... I just want HIM to get recognized for something ya know...its been really hard on him since daddy left for 4 months.....

thank you, you wonderful people......

why don't you just figure like 1/2 c. per person???? or a full cup if it's not a side dish????? it should be easy to figure it out that way........the boxes of noodles always say how much equals a cup cooked etc.

maybe you could make up some and measure it out cup for cup and put it in your large serving dishes........and then figure up how many of those dishes you would need based on how many each serves I don't know..........I'm guessing if you make 4 you're gonna have more than enough!!!

Hey Flav - I'm thinking 4 of those disposable roasting pans would probably be good. I make scratch mac and cheese all the time, for home & for gatherings large and small. For 200 people, I think you should go with 4 batches....or however many of your recipe it takes to fill the 4 big roasting pans. I find that even though it's usually a side dish, that people always take very large servings of it! lol icon_razz.gif A lot of people don't make the homemade mac & cheese that much, so whenever it's at a big gathering like this they tend to swarm it, sort of...lol. Plus, if you have any leftover it freezes well if it's wrapped very tightly. I've had some that was frozen for almost 3 months...took it out to thaw, then in the oven at 325 until heated through...yummy! I might have to make some tonight...lol icon_razz.gif

I cook in a nursing home and 8 lbs of macaroni(dry) is a lot of noodles. IF you are making this as a side dish you should have more then enough. You can cook your noodles ahead of time (they keep upto a week in the fridge) Go to the resturant supply store and buy the cheese already shredded, it will make life much easier. How much cheese you need depends on your recipes. At work we make a cheese sauce then add to the cooked noodles. At home i layer cheese with the cooked noodles then add the milk and bake

thank you all very much!..... the boy scout Pack leader stopped by last night and gave me 6 alum pans...the kind you find at picnic that use those sternos... SO I guess I will make that much.....geesh I'll be making this all day icon_lol.gif
the cake is baked, and frosted waiting for my 8 year old to come home and do his thing to it. I've also counted and such boxtops and labels, and even sewed on a few patches for my little boy scout... the total of this mac so is is 57.13 and I have to go and get 17.88 more (more cheese, I always put more cheese then what I am supposed to) this is one heck of an endeavor.... I will be reimbursed for the stuff I bought but I volunteered to make it for free....... I know I know.... but hey it's for boy scouts...
