Ok, so I have my first Wedding cake coming up in May-- of course Im stressing and planning now, I want to be very prepared. It is for a friends daughter, and she gave me the basic idea of what she wnats... a 3-tier square (16", 12", 8"), with the center tier off center/turned. It will be decorated with fresh gerberer daisies... she showed me some cakes here she likes, all very simplle with just a few flowers.... so pretty much the rest of the design is me.

I was wondering your opinions on using several different designs. The cake will be simply decorated in white BC.... I was thinking the bottom tier using a diamond impression mat with pearl dragees in each join, the middle tier doing a swiss dot, or dragees in the same fashion, and then perhaps some simple scroll work on the top tier... but is that too much variety for one cake-- will it look too busy?? Should I stick with the same design for each tier? ie. just do all swiss dots, or all diamonds etc... does that make sense? The bottom of each tier will have ribbon to match the brides colors.

I like the look of:

-all the same design on the tiers or

-a different but complimentary design on each tier or

-the same design top and bottom tiers and complimentary design on middle tier

It sounds like she really likes a simple, streamlined look so you may not want to go too heavy with design elements. Look back at the cakes that she really liked and use those as a springboard!

hmm so maybe if I did this....

Diamond impression with the pearl dragees on the bottom tier... then the middle tier just the pearl dragees (kind of like swiss dots), and then left the top tier plain... Kind of working the most detail from the bottom up to a more plain look.. ok does that make sense? Then the middle tier compliments the bottom tier... *shrugs*.... I am having so much anxiety over this cake LOL

That would work! I would scatter a few pearls kind of randomly on the top tier to complete the look and you are good to go!

ooh, the fade out design you're talking about from the bottom to the top sounds gorgeous!

Keep it simple and let the gerberas do the rest. I'm posting a photo of a cake I made when I was taking flower arrangement classes. It's a 3 tier hexagon (12-9-6) with just a shell border on top and on bottom, see how the flowers make it better.

I think Im going to go with the fade idea....

BUT the question... should I fade from the top to bottom or bottom to top....

I was thinking maybe doing the diamond impression & dragees on the top, dragees on the middle.. and scatter a few on the bottom.... but should it be the other way around, diamonds on bottom, to top?

I think the heavier decor should be at the bottom.

I agree with indydebi-heavier at the bottom. Diamond impression and dragees on bottom then work your way up to just a few scattered dragees on top!
