I'm doing my final cake for wilton class 3 tonight and I'd like to stack the cakes vs. the pillar (hopefully my instructor will let me do this!). Question, I have covered the 10" and 6" layers in fondant last night. Will the dowels mess up the fondant when I push them in? Never done this before and wondering if I should have inserted the dowels prior to the fondant! Will it work out or should I start with another cake??? THANKS!! :

should be okay, but you might want to take a sharp knife incase you have to cut a small hole in the fondant before inserting the dowel (just so the fondant won't crack)

Great idea!! Thank you so much!! I stayed up til 1:00 AM working on this, so the mind is numb... I know, it's just a cake for class, but I had a "vision" of what I wanted it to look like. Unfortunately, the skills aren't on task with the vision icon_cry.gif Oh well...at least it's good practice!

Yea! It worked!! (and I didn't need the knife). Here's a picture of the cake that covered my kitchen in powdered sugar!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Can't seem to add the picture here, but I posted it in my photos. Thanks for the advice!
