Possibly, but I'm not sure how even it would be, and the amount of times you would have to pass it through the rollers might make it warm and soften too much. Have you tried doing it in your KitchenAid with the dough hook? You would probably still have to knead it a bit by hand to even the color out, but it might save a little time and your hands.

It also helps to color a small ball of fondant a few shades darker than what you want the finished color to be, then knead the colored ball into white fondant. It will prevent any tiny little spots of unmixed gel or paste color from showing up in your finished fondant.

I would say no.....that is great for getting small amounts flattened to a uniform thickness ( like for flowers, etc. ) but not for mixing color. To be honest, I just discovered that my microwave is MMF's best friend. It was taking me forever and a bloody day to color my MMF until I decided to nuke it for about 12 - 15 secs and it gets slightly warm in the middle and soft ( this is also great for 'metling' any clumps ) then I add my color and kneed it in. It was all incorporated and smooth within minutes.

I am afraid to kill my KA mixing fondant so I just start it in there and then do it by hand....good luck! icon_smile.gif

I use mine for mixing my polymer clay, which is similar to the consistency of fondant. That's actually what some of the "pros" suggest you use your pasta machine for. If you have a motor for it, it won't take long to pass it through. Now, since I haven't actually done it with fondant, I don't know how well it would work, but maybe try a small amount and see how it goes.

Depending on what kind of fondant you are using, wouldn't putting regular fondant in the microwave dry it out? Sounds like it works well for MMF though.

when I am making a large amount of fondant, I just add the color to the liquid prior o mixing it - guarantees uniformity of color

Janet2007-

Are you coloring store-bought fondant or making your own?

I have just recently purchased a pasta machine and have used it to color icing but I would suggest that you don't ujse it for a big batch of icing enought to cover a cake but just for other things its great.

I am gonna make the Backyardigans for my daughters birthday cake. There are a lot of colors but I won't need much so I thought that I would try to use the pasta roller to mix the colors. Thanks for the answers!

If you don't need much it should be great. Make sure you post a picture when you finish. The only thing you need to do is need in the colour a little bit first, then roll out the paste and cut in half put one half on top of the other and go from there, that is how I did it. I used Blue and white. worked great.
