Nervous About Possible First Wedding Cake

Someone appoached me at church tonight for a wedding cake!!! I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. i was honest with her that I have NEVER done a wedding cake and she still was interested. The only crummy thing is she wants to order sheet cakes from Costco to serve from the kitchen and have me do a smaller pretty cake. Oh well.... I'm excited.
Congratulations! We all have to start somewhere! I have one coming up this summer that is 6 half-sheet cakes, pre-cut, plain, no decorations...and a smallish dummy cake. Unfortunately, it's hard to be totally excited about the customers' wants when they aren't quite what you would like to do, but on the bright side, you are getting your first wedding cake out of the way, and will surely be on your way to more challenging and exciting wedding cakes! Good luck and have fun!

I hope she realizes the taste isn't going to be the same. Nothing against Costco I am a Costco cake decorator sometines doing 40 cakes a day.
Thanks guys! I will mention to her that I can do the sheet cakes for her when we talk about what she wants. I am going to give her some samples also. I just got a call from a friend who does cakes and she has 2 wedding orders that she is unable to do, and she gave them my name.
I am SOOOOO nervous and excited ![]()
Yeah!!!! I agree with everyone-try to get her to let you do the sheet cakes as well. You don't want people thinking you made the Costco cakes (no offense to Costco-I just don't think "warehouse store" for my wedding cake). Plus you want everyone to be able to taste your great cake!
This is really exciting! We are all very happy for you. Good luck from your CC family!! Be sure to post pics if you do this cake.
You guys are all so awesome! i really appreaciate all of your kind words and support!
Congratulations!! How exciting for you. I also agree with the others about the sheet cakes. I hope the bride-to-be changes her mind and orders them from you. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Best of luck with the referrals from your friend!!!! May the phone start ringing. ![]()
