I need to start my color flow butterflies for my niece's cupcakes today. I go to my wonderful "cake cupboard" to get the wax paper out and low and behold it's all gone icon_surprised.gif So....

Can I use parchment paper instead or will they stick to that?

I was hoping to be able to attach them to their bodies tomorrow and I'd really hate to wait another day to start them. The party is Saturday and I still have to bake and decorate 12 cupcakes and a butterfly cake. icon_eek.gif

TIA! icon_smile.gif

Straight parchment paper may pose a problem. If you can find the silicone-coated parchment paper that would work better. There's a specialty grocery store near me which sells it.

The joy of using wax paper is that you can put the image you are trying to flow underneath and the wax paper on top and still see the image. This wouldn't be possible with parchment as it is opaque.

our walmart sells the silicone treated wax paper from wilton for a lot less than michael's does, so I would say look there first. If you don't need to see through the parchment paper though, I think you could try doing it on the parchment. But I couldn't tell you how well they would come off.

I use "Renolds" parchment paper straight from the grocery...I have never had a problem with my Royal Icing butterflies that I place on my cupcakes. Have pics in my gallery. Never sticks, as a matter of fact, when dry the royal icing figure will come right of without any problems. I never have any problems tracing either..I can see thru without a problem.

I am pretty sure I have used parchment paper before. Just make sure you slide a cake spatula under the wings to release them from the paper. Also, make a few color flow test puddles that you can check before you try and lift your wings.
