This is my first time to post on this website. So, I hope I do this correctly!
I am brand new to cake decorating. I want to practice, but don't need the calories of eating cake everytime I do! Can anyone give me suggestions on how to make and use a dummy cake?
Thanks in advance!
I have to add that this site is extremely addictive! I cannot believe all of the information and beautiful cakes! Wow!
Welcome to CC! I was brand new to cake decorating little over a year ago and this site is just wonderful! You'll find lots of help on using cake dummies. I've used them a few times. Starting with the dummy, I covered it with Glad Press and Seal. Then frosted it with bcf and with fondant if I was working with it. They do tend to slide around on the cake board so I pushed sharpened dowels up from the bottom of the board into the styrofoam. I also use that Rubbermaid thick rubbery shelf liner under the board to keep it firm on the turntable. Hope this helps!
P.S. When it comes down to it, I really like using cake the best. The weight and the texture of the cake itself is so different than the hardness of the foam. If you don't want to eat it, just give it away! ![]()
