Hey everyone,
Greetings from England! I'm pretty new to this site - I have a quick question, which may be the dumbest question ever! How long can I let cake batter sit out before baking it? If it's left out, will it change the way the final cake turns out? Thanks!!

Hi and Welcome to Cake Central. I baked a doctored cake mix cake yesterday and had extra batter. The extra sat there for about an hour before I put it into the oven and it was fine. I don't know if scratch batter might react differently.

I have refrigerated some left over batter until the other cake was out of the oven.. around 2-3 hours and it was fine.

I have some left over batter in the fridge right now that has been in for 24 hrs, so I hope it is okay to keep for that long icon_confused.gif
I was going to just make cupcakes for my kids with it. I hope it doesn't make us ill! icon_redface.gif

ive seen cake batter in retail bakeries left waiting to bake for hours, probably around 3 and it bakes fine. ive had it set out as long as 2 hours and its fine.

one time i forgot a pan of cupcakes overnight, so i baked them in the morning to see what would happen, they didnt raise as high, and no, they were not served. but i did try one, it tasted the same and i didnt get sick.
